STEVEN BLACKMAN, PH.D.
EXECUTIVE ASSESSMENT, DEVELOPMENT, SUCCESSION CONSULTANT AND COACH
Steven Blackman, PhD. is an accomplished consultant in the professional services industry, including both high-profile management and search consultancy firms. Following more than twenty-five years of professional experience, in late 2021, he founded his own executive assessment/development consultancy and coaching firm, Steven Blackman Leadership Consulting (SBLC). As an executive assessment and development expert, he consults to organizations, world-wide, in many areas including finalist/selection, succession, promotion, and high-potential identification. As an advanced ICF-accredited executive coach, he partners with executives in confidential engagements focused upon accelerated development through leveraging strong relationship-building skills, intuitive insights, and quantifiable assessment data.
Prior to starting up is own firm, Dr. Blackman worked for over 12 years as a Principal at Spencer Stuart International (SSI). At SSI, he collaborated with Fortune 500 companies regarding critical personnel decisions involving C-level and CEO executive assessment, development, promotion, and succession. During that time, he conducted over 1,200 executive assessments with C-level clients across 32 SSI offices, five different continents, and in two languages (he is fluent in Spanish).
Earlier in his career, he held senior-level organizational change and development consultant roles at Oliver Wyman (Delta Organization & Leadership), Price-Waterhouse Coopers, and Hughes Aircraft Company. In these positions, he developed not only an individual and team focus, but also a broader “macro-perspective” of the business world through building expertise in organizational diagnosis, senior team effectiveness, and organizational design.
Energetic, adaptable and cross-culturally sensitive, Dr. Blackman possesses vast international experience outside of North America including Central and South America, the Middle East, Europe, and Australia. As a resident in New York City for almost three decades, when not traveling, he enjoys everything the Big Apple has to offer including volunteering, attending art galleries with emerging artists, supporting experimental theatre, seeking out “off-the-beaten-path” historical walking tours, and venturing out to locate newer restaurants which have yet to be discovered.
Dr. Blackman holds a B.A. in Psychology from California State University and a M.A. and Ph.D. in Organizational Psychology from Alliant International University. He is an ICF-certified executive coach (e.g. ACPEC, CPC) and is also certified in numerous executive leadership assessment instruments and tools.
